Manaus, Brazil is a very safe destination in a country that has demonstrated political stability. Immigration and Customs clearance at the airport is no     different than it is in the US, albeit a bit slower.

Fishing the Amazon Basin is influenced by climatic conditions, access to the fisheries granted by Brazilian authorities and the occasional airline schedule change for flights into Manaus. As a result, any trip can be modified by Acute Angling if any of these factors diminish the potential fishing productivity. If a modification is necessary for a specific trip / fishery, Acute Angling will select  a productive alternative river to be used if suitable. If not, alternative trip dates will be offered. Acute Angling is committed to run the rivers to find the fish and ensure that your trip exceeds your expectations.

All fishing locations are generally free of mosquitoes due to the tannin acid in the river waters. However, off the river banks there are mosquitoes, though anglers generally do not access these areas.  Check with your doctor to determine if you should take any anti-malarial medication and be sure to bring a supply of any other medication you regularly take.

If you connect from a US / Canada airport to Miami for a flight to Manaus, Brazil, be sure to leave AT LEAST a three hour transfer time AND reclaim your bags in Miami -- then re-check for the Manaus flight. No Lures in Carry-on Baggage – airport security will not allow them as carry-on.

If you are a US citizen, you NEED A BRAZILIAN TOURIST VISA , otherwise you will not be allowed to board the Brazil flight in Miami. Generally, there are no shot / vaccination requirements to enter Brazil. If you have been in Columbia, Peru, Ecuador recently, you may require a Yellow Fever vaccination – check with www.traveldocs.com/br for requirements.

TRAVEL LIGHT !!!!  Float planes only allow a total (clothes, rods & equipment) of 44 lbs per passenger (20 kg.). You do not need a lot of clothing changes as every camp has daily laundry service.

Camp / Yacht Staff and Guide Tips are customary. You should plan on $150 total for the entire Camp / Yacht Staff and it should be given to the trip host who will ensure it is equitably distributed. You should also plan a minimum tip of $150 for your fishing Guide (more if you had an exceptional week). You can give this directly to your Guide at the end of the trip. Guides are not on salary, so they depend on tips for their livelihood.

Remember, you will be fishing close to the Equator, so bring and regularly   use a high filter sunscreen.  A bad sunburn can ruin your trip !!
